What is Y Green?

Y Green brings together a range of stakeholders to develop residential sustainability projects where young people are trained and subsequently employed to conduct home sustainability assessments in their local community.

Who’s behind Y Green?

Y Green is a partnership between Steplight Pty Ltd and Dusseldorp Skills Forum. Y Green is a program which can be adopted in any local community across Australia. Local collaborators include:

  • Government – Local councils (The Hills, Liverpool, Penrith, Wollondilly), federal government (the Jobs Fund)
  • Educators & Trainers – TAFE NSW Western Sydney Institute, MTC Work Solutions
  • Researchers – University of Western Sydney, University of New South Wales
  • Developers – Lend Lease (the New Rouse Hill)
  • Utilities – Integral Energy

What’s being said about Y Green?

A lot of people don’t know much about how to save electricity or reduce their carbon footprint… it’s been good to be able to help them and it’s interesting too. People have been responsive and seem genuinely interested in the work we’re doing… I guess that’s cause we’re not selling something.

I publicly call on our counterparts in other Councils… to follow our lead – to not only take up the challenge to help our residents reduce their greenhouse gas emissions but to give our youth the opportunity to be part of this – to gain skills in this emerging industry and lead the way forward.

It was good to get independent advice without someone trying to sell something

I didn’t realise that the outdoor spa was using up so much power when we weren’t even using it
